Best of the Irish Team for Simpson in Gijon

Jess Crofts

David was called up to represent Ireland in the CSIO5* Nations Cup show at Gijon in Spain.

David took Gentleman for the Nations Cup, Foudre F and Jenson 55 for the CSIO5* and Stephen Hendry’s 7 year old Hennessey for the CSIYH1*.

This was a long show with jumping starting on Wednesday.  Hennessey got off to a great start being 5th in the 7 year olds. Foudre then jumped a good round in the 1.40 and Jenson jumped the 1.50.

On Thursday Hennessey jumped really well again to be 9th in the 7 year olds. David gave Gentleman a training run round the 1.40 two phase, just jumping the first round on him making sure he was absolutely spot-on for Friday.

On Friday Gentleman jumped two absolutely fantastic rounds in the Nations Cup for just one time fault in each round finishing best of the Irish team.

On Saturday Hennessey finished a very good show coming 12th in the 7 year old final and Jenson was very unlucky in the Accumulator, just having the fence before the Joker.

On Sunday David just jumped Jenson in the 1.40 speed and Gentleman jumped in his first 5* Grand Prix, just having a couple of unlucky poles. All in all his CSIO5* debut was really impressive, and he has achieved some amazing results in his short career with David.
